Meet the Team

Moyan phillips (founder)

Myotherapist & Strength & Conditioning

I've spent 20 years working as a myotherapist, 15 years as a strength trainer, and 11 years building Urban Leopard from the ground up. It’s been a journey.

I’ve spent a long time doing the work — in the clinic room & under the bar. Studying movement and recovery isn’t enough, you need to try it, experience it, fail, try again, succeed, repeat.

After having two kids, I became the client. No strength, stability, pelvic floor, core control. Every muscle was weak and tight, contant headaches. It’s humbling. I know firsthand what it feels like to start from scratch, what it takes to get back, and what it feels like when it finally works.

Last year I completed a 12-week strength and conditioning course involving five days of training a week alongside deep study in breath, internal dynamics, pelvic floor, posture, gait, and programming. It was the most mentally and physically challenging course I’ve ever done. And also the most transformational.

At 46, I am stronger than I have ever been. My body is more connected, mobile and less injury prone than it was in my 20s & 30s. Given the constant barrage of negative forecasting women are fed about our aging bodies, about what we can’t do, what will break, age, degrade I’m pretty keen to assist in reframing that narrative.

So much so that I designed a class around it - Women, Strength & Power - so other women can experience the same shift I did.

I love my clinic, Urban Leopard. People who are in pain or are injured deserve a treatment model that no longer leaves them dependent on us, the practitioner. That’s true healing.

BHSc (Clinical Myotherapy) & Strength & Conditioning

With over 13 years' experience Jess has had the most success with combining myotherapy with biomechanical analysis and exercise prescription for ongoing longevity in her client's health.

Jess works closely with her clients to ensure acute to chronic musculoskeletal symptoms are managed effectively and return to work and/or sport seamlessly. Any ongoing management plans are developed collaboratively with clients' interests and goals prioritised.

Jess has a soft spot for back pain sufferers as she herself sustained a back injury in 2021 that required intensive rehab to overcome. Her lived experience has given her more effective tools to better manage individuals with back pain that is validating and applicable to their lifestyle. She also enjoys working with individuals presenting with shoulder injuries, long covid, headaches and tennis/golfer's elbow.

Throughout the week you can find Jess running strength and conditioning classes at Urban Leopard, teaching salsa with friends and zipping around on her old school Bianchi.
